Ensembles

This collection is composed of 9 very easy percussion ensembles for 5 players and uses standard percussion instruments. The parts for each tune are presented on facing pages. The following titles are included: Processional, A Little Song, Drums Galore, Nervous Notes, March Right In, Gliding Along, Fugue, Boom Whap, and Finale.

This collection is based on the 9 titles of Simple Steps to Percussion Ensembles. They have been expanded and arranged for 6 players at the intermediate level. This set includes a conductor's score and 6 individual parts.

The 1968 San Francisco Symphony tour of Japan provided the inspiration for this work which includes the old Japanese melody, Moon Over the Ruined Castle. It contains a conductor's score and parts for 5 players. Instrumentation includes: (Player 1) orchestra bells, temple blocks, bamboo sticks; (Player 2) xylophone, woodblocks, bamboo sticks; (Player 3) tom-toms, bongos; (Player 4) suspended cymbal, finger cymbals, bass drum, and bamboo wind chimes; (Player 5) 4 timpani.

Rondo was specifically written for young students with basic percussion training. Standard percussion instruments are used which can be found in most schools. Double Concerto for Two Percussion and Orchestra is an exciting composition in one movement for a percussionist and timpanist. It opens with a cadenza for the two soloists at a fast tempo. The percussionist plays three toms, tenor drum, and suspended cymbal. The timpanist plays 4 timpani and a tenor drum. Perfect for a small chamber orchestra.

This work is in 5 movements: Lord Have Mercy, Glory Be to God, Creed, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lamb of God. It is one of the few compositions that features 4 percussion soloists and mixed chorus. This dramatic presentation of the Catholic Mass is a major work in percussion literature.
